HOW GOOD ARE
YOU IN WHAT YOU DO? COMPLIMENTING OTHERS …
Many of us
boast about how good we are. I heard a teacher once saying that he heard
another saying one time that “he was the best Biology teacher in PNG”. All the
teachers who heard that smiled – or were quite surprised at what the person said.
The true measure of who you are is often given to you by someone who may not be
close to you in anyway. We can fool ourselves by declaring how good we are.
Even worse yet is when a loved one – or someone who likes you – tells you that
you are “smart, intelligent or skillful in this or that”. But listen for those
voices – people that do not really know everything about you - commenting on
your abilities/talents/skills. If you are good, they will tell you. They are
the ones who will not say good or flowery stuff about you again and again – but
once they have said it, you ought to pay attention and polish up that skill or
talent and take it to the next stage. On the other hand, if you have spotted
talent or someone showing some flair in what s/he does, be good to mention it
to him or her. I have realized that many people criticize but not many
encourage another person. It is part of becoming mature … I mean complimenting
somebody for something good s/he may have done or said. There are people we
will meet this year who will need some compliments from us to help them polish
up what God has given them. Let us be ready to see those abilities/talents/skills
and accord the appropriate compliments to those who possess them. Cheers.
