"Success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration." - Thomas Alva Edison
QUOTING ON QUOTES: WHAT IS SUCCESS? THE SECRET
TO SUCCESS … Success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. – Thomas Alva
Edison, American inventor and entrepreneur … This is one of my favourites. When
I was coming out of my teen years, and while studying Science, I read a
biography of Edison. He amazed me. A self-taught man, who left school at the
age of ten and was taught the basics in literacy and numeracy be his mother, he
read books life in the same way that he ate food and knew more than most people
his age. He was also very skillful with electrical/electronic/mechanical devices
and invented the phonograph (sound-recording device) and incandescent light
bulb. He also made developments to movie pictures and the telephone. Now, to
the quote. Success is easy to think about and fantasize about. But for you to realize
your dreams and visions, you’ve got to sweat. You must learn to work towards
what you dream about achieving – scoring top grades in all your subjects, being
promoted, building a business, etc. There are many people who dream (the 1% of
being inspired), but not many go beyond that by putting in the effort, day-in,
day-out, to take their feet from where they are to where they want to be. The
sports champion knows this very well. To set a new record in 100m or the high
jump, the champion must be ready to turn up for training, every time, sweat out,
run, jump and not listen to his/her body which wants ease and comfort. All true
achievers in life know the truth about the 99% of the bit of this secret to
success. May you also advance yourself by sweating more, working hard in all
you do. To end this post, remember, success comes to those who work, not to
those who just sleep and dream. Cheers. (– Picture from biography.com)
