"Your attitude determines your altitude." - Zig Ziglar
QUOTING ON QUOTES …
ATTITUDE MATTERS … “You attitude determines your altitude.” – Zig Ziglar. In
November last year, I learned that an author, teacher and motivational speaker
I knew had passed away. (He died on November 28, aged 86.) I read Zig Ziglar’s
quote sometime in the late 1990s, and I often used it to help students then –
people who had the brains, but did not possess/display the right type of
attitude. In life, good attitude can take you far – further than your brains
can. In a workshop last year, I mentioned to some young male teachers that the
success of the school is measured by the types of grades the students get when
they sit for the national exams. They may have the attractive uniform, nice
buildings, many vehicles, computers, ergo – but if the students do not score
well in their exams, what is there to boast about. After I completed the
statement, a young teacher said: “But you know, good grades are not everything.
Students must be groomed properly to respect others and have a good attitude in
life.” I said: “You’re right friend. But then, without good attitude, how can
one score good grades, year after year, and wherever one goes to learn – secondary
schools, colleges, universities, etc.” The same is true for a sports team. The
team with a good attitude will win the village com, the district comp, the
provincial comp, the national comp and may even go overseas to challenge the
top teams from around the world. With good attitude, a good student or worker
has that added “edge” – and performs well, day in, day out, week after
week.
