REACHING
OUT TO HELP THE POOR WITH A BANK?
I wrote an item (a feature story) about someone
who started a bank for the poor in Bangladesh decades ago. A relative told me
about the person in the 1990s.
He,
an economist, saw a need to reach out and help with whatever resources he had
to make a change.
Today
the bank that Dr Muhammad Yunus started in 1983 as Grameen Bank (village
bank) is the top bank in Bangladesh. Its model of lending people micro-loans is
now used all over the world, including organisations in the western world. (More
on this later.)
Do you see people needing help around you? Will you
help? The little you offer can in the long run turn into something big and
awesome. Read more about Dr Yunus
